My topic: New Zealand in The Lords of the Rings

My questions:
1. Why did the director choose New Zealand for the filming?
2. What are the places chosen for the setting?
3. How are the places presented in the films?
4. How are the places preserved after the filming?

I am a big fan of the LOTR film series too, Jing. And, New Zealand is one of the places I most want to visit in the world. You do have a particularly interesting topic and somewhat unique in that it really does pair two topics together. I encourage you to also do some research on the director, Peter Jackson, who I believe is from New Zealand himself. In addition to biographies and interviews (journals, magazines, online), the DVD releases of the films might have some director interviews or insights as extras that might also prove helpful. I'm wondering if you are also a fan of the books -- if so, one of the questions you might pursue is whether or not Jackson -- through his use of NZ as the setting and through the use of his cinematic skill and use of effects brings the world of the books to life in a manner that is true to Tolkien's vision... I look forward to reading more! Let me know if I can be of help! Best, Dr. Young
